On Thursday April 10 2008 the school of Bachleor Of Information Technology with a Major in Interactive Multimedia and Design which is tought through Carleton University and Algonquin College had their Thesis project fair. Being in 4th year I was taking part. It was a great experence! The group I was part of was EmoCapsule.com.

EmoCapsule is a study of interactivity. Participants influence the installation by inputting their emotions at emocapsule.com. The website provides users with emotional statistics and trends based on frequency, location, and weather information collected. The installation is dynamically updated to reflect the dominant emotional mood.

Visitors interact with the current emotional state of the EmoCapsule installation - depicted through sound, text, and colour. Participants move and catch emotion words using their own silhouette and other objects. Participants make loud noises, triggering the installation to emit reactive sounds and display new words. These form a sort of conversation between the user and the installation space. View a video here.

We are currently working on the submission aspect for the student SIGGRAPH Physical Interactive Installation of the conference. We are hoping that we will be accepted and be able to display our installation at this prestigious conference. If you are feeling emotional please take a look at and submit an emotion. Overlay.tv went public on Valentines Day and so far the feedback has been great. For those who don’t know Overlay.tv is a tech start up based out of Ottawa Ontario Canada.

To display some of the neat effects and features of the video what better way to do it than with the video Homecoming by The Teenagers. The Teenagers are from Paris and are recording some love music. Their debut album Reality Check has just been released as of recent and everyone has been loving it… They are also hilarious live…

One of the best web magazines I have found relating to web design and technologies is by far Smashing Magazine. The website hosts a large array of Tutorials, Events, ShowCases and Know-How’s and its great for inspiration. Every article posted is fully relevant to a designer, developer or tech-savy person. No matter how experienced or novice you are there will be an abundant of helpful information for the following technologies and programs, Photoshop, Illustrator, CSS, PHP, AJAX, ASP, HTML, XHTML etc…

The two main reasons I find Smashing Magazine useful:

1: Smashing Magazine hosts their own help/tutorials as well as post external links that host many other tutorials.

2: Smashing Magazine regulartly posts links to list or actual sites of the best designed (insert anything related to design here) This can include but not limited to logos, icons, Wordpress themes, favicons not only do these resourses help with your current projects they also are great for inspiration.

I could keep on describing how usefully this site has been to me and what I like and do not like about it but truth is, I will always use Smashing Magazine as a reference, or starting place for a good references with web technologies so just go check it out for your self.
