An update on Emocapsule.com, with great news our group has been ACCEPTED to take part in SIGGRAPH 2008 being hosted in LA. We will be presenting the week of August 11 - 15 at Los Angeles Convention Centre. This is big news, for those unaware as to what SIGGRAPH (short for Special Interest Group on GRAPHics and Interactive Techniques) is a Internation Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactivity Techniques which is being hosted at the LA Convention Center during August 11 - 15 2008. In 2005 25 000 people attended the conference, this is something to be pumped about being accepted to.
EmoCapsule is a study of interactivity. Participants influence the installation by inputting their emotions at emocapsule.com. The website provides users with emotional statistics and trends based on frequency, location, and weather information collected. The installation is dynamically updated to reflect the dominant emotional mood.
Visitors interact with the current emotional state of the EmoCapsule installation - depicted through sound, text, and colour. Participants move and catch emotion words using their own silhouette and other objects. Participants make loud noises, triggering the installation to emit reactive sounds and display new words. These form a sort of conversation between the user and the installation space.
So if you will please check out Emocapsule.com and or the SIGGRAPH website. With Love JSHAW and the EmoCapsule Team

We are currently working on the submission aspect for the student SIGGRAPHPhysical Interactive Installation of the conference. We are hoping that we will be accepted and be able to display our installation at this prestigious conference. If you are feeling emotional please take a look at and submit an emotion. It is great fun. Do it here –> Emocapsule.com.
As well I did some acting in another groups senior project. The video was Run The Streets it turned out very well. Check out the trailer below.
Overlay.tv went public on Valentines Day and so far the feedback has been great. For those who don’t know Overlay.tv is a tech start up based out of Ottawa Ontario Canada.

Overlay.TV is a private company headquartered in Ottawa, Canada. - Overlay.TV
I highly suggest heading over to Overlay.tv and see what they are all about. I don’t know maybe sign up and get Overlayed?
To display some of the neat effects and features of the video what better way to do it than with the video Homecoming by The Teenagers. The Teenagers are from Paris and are recording some love music. Their debut album Reality Check has just been released as of recent and everyone has been loving it… They are also hilarious live…
It has been a while since I have posted anything. Mainly it is because school has picked up greatly and I’ve started a new job.
Our senior Project is slowly making progress, it still doesn’t look like too much is going on but there is! Take a gander at Emocapsule.com . I am harvesting weather data and location data from various sites storing it in our DB allowing for the collection of statistics and information comparing location, time, weather and emotions. I am also playing around with the Google maps API to use with displaying the gathered information. I have never really used that much JavaScript or played around with AJAX so it is a good excuse to learn some interesting technologies.
A few friends and I have started another blog called Doin’ Work. The name comes from the sayings of Rob and Big. The blog is just for fun and should be taken lightly.
On the music side of things, Gold Front Records has been playing some shows here in Ottawa. Our great friend DJ Barletta has been poppin’ up in blogs with some of his mixes like he owns the internet (which he does). His Daft Punk RMX was featured in MissingToof a few weeks back along side sebastiAn and Justice remixes. Here is the RMX again along with his new Ocelot mix!
JFK, former DFA1979 basest and member of the revolutionary MSTRKRFT has started doing some solo production. Some of my favorite so far are the Space Cowboy mix and the Bloc Party FLUX mix. Check them out below!
With one week of work left the anticipation of school is finally catching up to me. I am actually very excited to be heading back to Ottawa for school. This year will be busy, being my final year. I am however ready for the hectic schedules and busy nights. For a current look at our thesis project and blog please take the time to check out EmoCapsule.com.
LA is no longer happening. There are so many oppertunities available in Ottawa during the first week of September I just couldn’t miss them.
I am currently reading Wikinomics How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams. I was really interested when they started talking about the remix culture. They were referencing The Gray Album by Danger Mouse and a bunch of other projects. I am guessing that the Electro/House remix scene was a bit smaller than the hip-hop one they mentioned.
Here is some music… Not all of these songs are remixes or mash-ups, there just good tunes!
